Buffalo Zen Center

The center functions on three levels:

As a center providing guided meditation, empowerment practices, lessons on right livelihood for members, and instruction for meditation, as well as lectures and religious services for the public.

As a training center that serves members of the Sangha as well as Dharma workers, the greater community as a whole and visitors who come to stay at the center for extended periods of training or retreats.

The center also serves as a Sangha or community where center members can develop an awareness of Dharma family, support each other’s spiritual cultivation, and promote and enlightened society.

Membership

We encourage you to participate in the Buddhist movement in the West by becoming a center member. Those who have taken the Introductory Meditation Course are encouraged to

become practicing members. The center is available to practicing members as a place of meditation and Dharma study. Anyone who attends the Sunday public service regularly or occasionally can become a general member.

Membership Sittings

For practicing members: Sunday mornings at 6:00 and Wednesday evenings at 6:30. For those practicing members traveling long distances, there is an opportunity to stay over Saturday night at the center for early Sunday morning sittings.

Membership Donations

The center’s teacher and training staff live frugally, so all of the members’ monthly donations go to maintain the center’s Dharma work as well as overhead expenses. Suggested donation: 1% of annual income with minimum $40/month for practicing members, minimum $20/month for general members.

Spring & Fall Membership Meetings

Membership meetings with the teacher are held in small groups in order for the teacher to gain a better understanding of the home and/or work situation and practice of each member. The meetings allow members to seek advice, share their experiences, and participate in a mini-seminar on a pertinent topic. Please inquire for details.
